“Flatout2” is a destruction derby racing game where smashing your opponents plays a big part. The single player campaign is split into three different parts; derby, racing, and street. You need to buy different cars for each class, and you can buy different upgrades for them, something which seems to have become the standard for racing games now. As you progress in the campaign you unlock new tracks and events. You can also race single events or stunts.
The game has gotten an overhaul. The graphics look great, and the improved physics gives you a better racing feel and much more destruction. The artificial intelligence is better as each driver now has individual characteristics. There are more tracks to choose from, ranging from urban and forrest, to farmland and desert, in addition to more cars and stunt events.
The sound is pretty good. The soundtrack consists of various forms of rock, from mainstream to indie. Audioslave, Nickelback and Rob Zombie are a few of the artists which are included.
After a much needed patch, the multiplayer part of the game is now fun to play. Bugbear added voice- and text-chat, improved the net code, extended the multiplayer list to show a lot more games, and added proper support for widescreen resolutions, among other things. There are still a few outstanding bugs, like the engine noise being too low sometimes, black/white screens at the start of multiplayer games and other things, but after the patch the multiplayer part has been improved by a mile.
